I am a life-long "Yellow Dog" Democrat who has long been baffled by the appeal of the Republican Party to poor whites, whose interests are diametrically opposed to their well-being. Mr. Bageant brought it home to me that as a liberal I have been an "elitist," in that my anger at these unfortunates made me look upon them with contempt for the incredible stupidity of their politics. OK, they are ill- or uneducated, don't see things as clearly as they should and have been co-opted by the GOP to whom economic advantage, not guns, God or gays, are of paramount importance. The GOP is therefore able to capture poor white votes by patronizing
their vulnerabilities -- love of God and guns -- while supporting their indignation at metrosexuals and uptown styles.
--George Fl ynn

Re: Ma.gnolia:Apple-Friendly Social Bookmarking

Delete
MARSHAL SANDLER
marshal.m1@gmail.com
http://marshalsandler.com/
MarshalSandler.com is a playground of ideas, introductions, and
synergies.
